An Eye on the Future
by Eric Everett
According to AT, winning multiple gold medals in Beijing isn't the culmination of a great career -- it's just the start of phase two.
That's what Associated Press reporter Charles Odum wrote in his post-Olympics feature about Angelo.
Taylor, the 400-meter hurdles champion in the Beijing Olympics, says the 2012 London Games are definitely in the picture.
The 29-year-old became the first 400-meter hurdler since Edwin Moses to win gold medals eight years apart. The gold came in a personal-record 47.25 seconds and completed his comeback from injuries and legal problems which threatened to end his career.
What's more: the Olympic champion in the 400m hurdles sees a world record on the horizon.
Taylor says he can beat the world record of 46.78 set by Kevin Young in 1992.
Taylor, who won the 1998 NCAA championship at Georgia Tech and continued to train at the school's facilities, made the Olympics team after finishing third in the U.S. trials.
He said he felt overlooked, at least until the hurdles final.
